The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has begun crediting interest into provident fund (PF) accounts, according to a PIB statement from November 1, 2023. For the fiscal year 2022-23, the rate of interest on EPF accounts is 8.15%.
According to the PIB release, “Bhupender Yadav (Union Minister for Labour & Employment, Environment, Forest & Climate Change) emphasizes on EPFO becoming a hassle free and technology driven Organization, expresses satisfaction that EPFO is giving 8.15% interest this year and has already credited interest in more than 24 crore accounts.”
The EPFO replied to a post on X (previously known asTwitter) about when the interest will be credited into EPF accounts, “The process is in pipeline and may be shown there very shortly. Whenever the interest will be credited, it will be accumulated and paid in full. There would be no loss of interest. Please maintain patience.”

How to check EPF account balance
The interest will appear in the individual’s PF account after it has been credited. There are several ways to check the balance of a provident fund account: through text message, missed call, UMANG app, and EPFO website.
Using Umang app
Employees can use the Umang app on their phones to view their PF balance. With the app, one may track claims, raise claims, and access the EPF Passbook. You must first complete a one-time registration using your phone number in order to proceed.
Step 1: Go to Google Play Store or Apple App Store and search for the ‘UMANG’ app.
