Pay higher charges of 6% for not maintaining average monthly balance in this bank from June 1, 2025

Get ready to pay more money for not maintaining the specified monthly average balance in the Development Bank of Singapore (DBS) India. According to an email sent by DBS Bank India to its customers on May 7, 2025, with effect from June 1, 2025 the non-maintenance charges will be 6% of the shortfall amount subject to a maximum of Rs 500. This is a 2% increase from the previous charge which was 4% of the shortfall up to Rs 400. For those uninitiated DBS Bank India requires you to maintain Rs 10,000 as monthly average balance (MAB) in a regular savings bank account.The maximum amount of charge which DBS Bank could charge earlier for failure to maintain the MAB was 4% and maximum up to Rs 400. Now from June 1, 2025 it’s 6% and maximum up to Rs 500. So the increase in maximum fee is Rs 100 which is a 25% hike.
“At DBS Bank, we’re committed to keeping you updated on changes that impact your banking experience. Staying informed of this change can help you avoid unexpected fees and manage your account with ease. Effective from 01-06-2025, there will be a revision to your Monthly Average Balance (MAB) non-maintenance charges,” said DBS Bank in its email.

What’s changing from June 1, 2025?

According to the email by DBS Bank, “For your DBS BANK Savings Account, the required MAB is Rs 10,000 . The non-maintenance charge will now be 6% of the shortfall (up to a maximum of Rs 500) For example, if your required MAB is Rs 10,000 and your account balance falls short by Rs 5000: Revised charge: Rs 300 (6% of Rs 5000).

According to the DBS Bank website, prior to this change in non-maintenance fees, the old charges were 4% up to Rs 400 for DBS Bank Savings Account customers.

DBS Bank increasing ATM Cash withdrawal fees for beyond the free limit transactions

With effect from May 1, 2025 as per RBI notification which allowed banks to charge a maximum of Rs 23 per ATM cash withdrawal transactions beyond the free limit, DBS Bank has revised its charges and will now charge Rs 23 per non-DBS Bank ATM cash withdrawal transactions beyond the free limit. However for DBS Bank ATMs, there are no charges and you can withdraw cash for unlimited times without any monetary charge.“We would like to bring to your kind attention that ATM cash withdrawal fees have been increased to Rs 23 per transaction, effective from 1st May 2025, as per the guidelines issued by Reserve Bank of India (RBI),” said DBS Bank in an email to its customers.The RBI said on March 28, 2025: “Beyond the free transactions, a customer may be charged a maximum fee of Rs 23 per transaction. This shall be effective from May 1, 2025. Applicable taxes, if any, shall be additionally payable…,” the notification says.
