The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issues a list of public and regional holidays for banks under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. As Holika Dahan is a significant festival in North and Central India, many banks in these regions will remain closed.

Banks will observe a holiday in states where Holika Dahan is widely celebrated. Banks will be closed in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand on March 13, 2025 for Holika Dahan. However, banks will continue to function as usual in all other states.

What is Holika Dahan?

Holika Dahan, also called “Chhoti Holi” or “Holika Deepak,” is a Hindu ceremony that takes place before the festival of Holi. Bonfires are lit across the country to symbolize the burning away of negativity and evil.

Bank holiday for Attukal Pongala on March 13, 2025

Attukal Pongala is a religious festival celebrated at the Attukal Bhagavathy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. The festival is celebrated based on the Malayalam calendar and local traditions. Banks will be closed in Kerala on March 13, 2025 for Attukal Pongala.Note that all scheduled and non-scheduled banks will observe public holiday on the second and fourth Saturdays.

Banks in affected states will remain closed on March 13, 2025, meaning no counter transactions, check deposits, or in-person banking services will be available. Digital banking services, including net banking, UPI transactions, and mobile banking, will continue to function as usual.
