FinanceLaneby FinanceLane
May 5, 2025

A National Lok Adalat, Delhi is being organised in all court complexes of Delhi on May 10, 2025 from 10AM to 4PM. If you have any pending legal money dispute cases relating to motor accident claims, motor insurance, cheque dishonour, matrimonial (except divorce), Delhi Traffic Police notice/challans, electricity and water bill dispute, land acquisition cases and others, then attending this National Lok Adalat can help you settle the case – realise money stuck in it or save you time and money. The National Lok Adalat sessions will be held at the court complexes of Dwarka, Karkardooma, Patiala House, Rohini, Rouse Avenue, Saket and Tis Hazari.Specifically, this National Lok Adalat presents an opportunity for vehicle owners including owners of bikes and scooters, who have any pending Delhi Traffic Police challans/notices to save a lot of money by settling the challans/notices in full. Cases of individuals saving up to 70% to 80% of the challans/notices amount at such lok adalats have been reported earlier.
People have also managed to get some money by settling motor accident claims, electricity bill disputes and similar cases stuck for long. One of the key aspects of this National Lok Adalat is that people from anywhere in the National Capital Region (NCR) and other states can come and settle their Delhi Traffic Police challans. The key point to note is that the state where the vehicle is registered does not matter over here, what matters is that the challan/notices must be issued by the Delhi Traffic Police.

Read below to know more about how the National Lok Adalat works and how vehicle owners can use it to settle their pending Delhi Traffic police challans and notices.

How will the National Lok Adalat, Delhi work on May 10, 2025?

  • Cheque dishonour cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instrument Act
  • Money recovery cases
  • Motor Accident Claims cases (MACT)
  • Labour dispute cases;
  • Electricity and water bill cases
  • Matrimonial disputes (except divorce)
  • Land acquisition cases

  • Revenue cases (pending in district and high courts only),
  • Other civil cases
  • Compoundable traffic challans.

Advocate Atul Sharma, Partner at S&G Attorneys shares his experience at a previous National Lok Adalat:

  • Electricity and water dispute: “One of my clients had a commercial electricity connection. In case of such connections the electricity charges continue to be billed whether electricity is used or not. So my client informed the power company that due to some fire safety work his connection should be turned off for 3 months. However, the power company failed to do so and billed him Rs 1.35 lakh. Hence the legal dispute started. Ultimately in the Lok Adalat he settled the case by paying Rs 5000 (excluding legal cost).”
  • Motor accident claims case: “In another case, a client who became 45% disabled, claimed Rs 8 lakh from the insurance company under Motor Accident Claims Tribunal Act (MACT). The Insurance company was paying Rs 3 lakh. Ultimately in Lok Adalat he got Rs 4.25 lakh. In MACT cases the judge takes the opinion of medical experts and works like a mediator between the insurance company and the accident victim.”
  • Motor insurance civil case: “In another case where I represented an insurance company, a car got stolen and the owner demanded Rs 12 lakh (IDV- Insurance Declared Value)) plus interest. However, when the insurance company’s surveyor investigated, the owner said that he had lost the spare key but he did not file an FIR for this. Ultimately in Lok Adalat the matter got settled as the insurance company was ordered to pay 70% of the money i.e. Rs 9 lakh and settle the case in full.
