Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) once again opens for applications: What is the monthly financial assistance, eligibility, last date to apply?

The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) is now accepting applications for Round 2 of its pilot phase, offering more than 1 lakh internship opportunities in leading companies across more than 730 districts in India, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs announced a release on February 20, 2025.The scheme focuses on individuals aged 21 to 24 years who are currently not engaged in any full-time academic programme or employment, providing them with a unique opportunity to start their careers. The scheme was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Union Budget 2024-25.
Round 1 of the PMIS pilot was launched on October 3, 2024, with a dedicated online site (pminternship.mca.gov.in) for corporates to register internship opportunities. The last date for submitting applications for internships in Round 1 was November 15, 2024, and it received more than 6 lakh applications.

What is the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS)?

The Prime Minister Internship Scheme is an initiative launched by the Government of India to offer internship opportunities to young individuals in the country’s top 500 companies. The programme offers youth exposure to real-life business environments across various sectors, enabling them to acquire valuable skills and work experience.

What is the last date to apply for PMIS Round 2?

Applications for internships in Round 2 of the PMIS pilot are now open until March 12, 2025.

How to apply for the PM Internship Scheme?

Eligible individuals should register on the website, create a profile, and apply for internship opportunities across various sectors. In Round 2, each applicant can apply for up to three internships until the application deadline. PM Internship Scheme: What is the monthly financial assistance?

Each intern will receive monthly financial assistance of Rs 5,000, along with a one-time financial aid of Rs 6,000. Each internship will be a combination of relevant training and professional experience (at least six months), as per the Ministry of Corporate Affairs release.

Note that Aadhaar seeding is essential for receiving Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT) provided by various government schemes.

Insurance coverage under the PM Internship Scheme
Insurance coverage is provided for every intern under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana by the Government of India
As per the PM Internship Scheme FAQs, “Insurance coverage shall be provided to each individual intern under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, for which the premium amount shall be provided by the Government of India. In addition, the company may also provide additional accidental insurance coverage to the interns.”

Who is eligible to apply for PM Internship Scheme?

To apply for the PM Internship Scheme, you must meet the following criteria:
o You must be an Indian citizen.
o You must be aged between 21 and 24 years (as on the last date for submission of the application)
o You must not be employed full-time or engaged in full-time education (candidates enrolled in online or distance learning programmes are eligible).
o You must have completed your Secondary School Certificate (SSC) or its equivalent, Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or its equivalent, or hold a certificate from an industrial training institute (ITI), a diploma from a polytechnic institute, or a graduation degree such as BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, BBA, B.Pharma, etc.
