Banks in many states will be closed on April 18, 2025, as they observe Good Friday—a gazetted bank holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.In April 2025, several bank holidays are scheduled across different states, including observances such as Mahavir Jayanti, Ambedkar Jayanti, Good Friday, Bohag Bihu, Basava Jayanti, and Akshaya Tritiya. Additionally, April 1, 2025 was a mandatory bank holiday across all states for the finalization of yearly accounts.

Good Friday, observed on the Friday before Easter Sunday, commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary. In 2025, Good Friday falls on April 18. In which states banks are closed on April 18, 2025?

Banks will be closed in most major states on April 18, 2025 except Tripura, Assam, Rajasthan, Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, and Srinagar.

Which services will be impacted?

All in-branch transactions—cash withdrawals, cheque deposits and clearances, account opening or updates, locker access—will be unavailable on April 18, 2025 in the states which have bank holidays. Disbursements requiring branch approval or manual intervention will be delayed. Banks will remain closed in Tripura on April 21, 2025 for Garia Puja.April 29 (Tuesday) – Bhagwan Shri Parshuram Jayanti
Banks will be closed in Himachal Pradesh April 29, 2025 to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Parshuram, the sixth incarnation of Vishnu.

April 30 (Wednesday) – Basava Jayanti and Akshaya Tritiya
Banks will be closed in Karnataka to observe Basava Jayanti, honoring Basavanna, the founder of the Lingayat sect, and Akshaya Tritiya, considered an auspicious day for wealth and prosperity.
