The Indian Railways introduced the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) app in 2014. This app allows users to book tickets for suburban and specified non-suburban trains. Non-suburban station tickets beyond 200 km can be purchased up to three days in advance (excluding the date of the journey). According to the UTS website, suburban tickets for up to 200 km can only be issued on the day of the journey. Additionally, the Ministry of Railways eliminated all service charges for purchasing tickets on UTS using credit and debit cards.
“Withdrawal of service charges applicable on transactions against credit/debit cards for purchasing journey tickets at Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS)/ Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters,” according to a press release by the Ministry of Railways dated March 14, 2018
