The National Pension System (NPS) was created by the government as a retirement planning program for people who will not get a stable pension after they retire. To maintain an NPS account, one must make a minimum annual contribution of Rs 6,000 till retirement.
Your NPS account balance depends on two elements. The first is the voluntary annual contributions you make to your NPS account, and the second is the income from investing 40% of the maturity amount in annuities.
According to the NPStrust website, “The Statement of Transaction (SOT) for your NPS account shall be printed and dispatched to your registered address once in a year by the respective CRA. Soft copy shall also be provided periodically to your registered email id. However, subscribers can now download their Statement of Transaction online at any time.”
However, one can check the balance online anytime anywhere by visiting the respective CRA, NPS mobile app, using Umang, and through SMS.
